Sample entrepreneurship Assignment

Assessment 2: Developing an innovative venture idea

Overview

Length: 2000 words or equivalent (+/- 10%)

Weight: 40%

Due date: End of Week 3 (11.59pm Sat)

Entrepreneurs find or create novel ideas for new ventures. This assessment requires you to develop and persuasively present an innovative idea for any type of entrepreneurial venture (i.e. independent, family, corporate, indigenous or social). You must present this information as a filmed 8 to 10-minute presentation.

Submit a link to your video and the script of your presentation. Your script should be a maximum of 1000–1200 words. References are not included in the word count and must be placed after your script. In-text citations within the script are included in the word count.

The video must include you making a virtual, filmed presentation. It cannot be a narrated PowerPoint.

This assessment supports unit learning outcomes 1, 2 and 3.

Your assessment submission should include a cover page. Download the Cover page template (DOCX 13 KB).

Task

  1. Introduce your innovative idea or venture and articulate your value proposition. (1 minute)
  2. Explain, utilising a mind map, why you have chosen this venture and report on how your own personality characteristics will support your success in this venture. (2 minutes)
  3. Present a SWOT analysis of your proposed venture. (2 minutes)
  4. Elaborate on why your idea represents innovation and a business opportunity and argue how you plan to manage the weaknesses and threats you have identified. (2 minutes)
  5. Critically evaluate the literature on entrepreneurship and identify two potential barriers to the success of your venture. (2 minutes)

Submitting your assessment:

    • Create a Word document for submission in Urkund Originality. This document should contain the following information:
    1. the URL or link to your presentation (including the password to link if applicable). Please note, that you will not be able to submit your presentation as it will most likely exceed the file size allowance for assessments.
    2. your complete presentation script (everything that you say during your recorded presentation).
    • Filmed presentation: This is a two-part process. Firstly you will need to save your filmed presentation as a video file (an mp4) and then upload your video to YouTube for viewing.

Assessment 2: Developing an innovative venture idea

 Due 22 July at 23:59

This is also an Assessment week. Assessment is due on Sunday, July 23rd

For this:

  1. The expectations of video presentations are similar to how we give a presentation over a Zoom call. It cannot be just narrated PowerPoints; we need to be physically present in the video.
  2. The word limit for the script file is 1200. As we are pressed on the word count, I suggest putting the content of slides as images to circumvent and make optimum use of appendices.
  3. For this assessment, we need to identify and define a business problem and find a solution as a minimum viable product. As we will extend this model further for assessment 3, I suggest doing this in the field you’re comfortable in and know about.
  4. A key aspect will be to develop our innovative thinking. For this:
    1. You can come up with a disruptive idea that is completely new and are confident that you can justify its market potential (The classic pathway)
    2. You can work on an existing domain, as long as your value proposition adds incremental value. It cannot be a simple emulation of an existing model.
    3. If confused, You can use this as a yardstick: “This business model is not mainstream in Australia.”

I will schedule calls with you this week to discuss ideas and help build a viable concept. Do share a suitable time to connect.
